HELLP syndrome led to maternal death

The Balwant Singh Hospital administration said that a rare postpartum condition led to the death of Slellene Jagjit-Ragoobeer on Wednesday.

The hospital stated that the baby born to now deceased Jagjit-Ragoobeer is doing well and is currently under observation in the intensive care unit (ICU).

Bush Lot woman dies after giving birth

A 27-year-old woman of Bush Lot, West Coast Berbice died on Wednesday morning after giving birth via caesarean-section to a healthy baby boy at the Balwant Singh Hospital in Georgetown.

Shellene ‘Shelly’ Jagjit-Ragoobeer, a Systems Development Officer in the education department of the Regional Democratic Council (RDC), Region Five was admitted at the hospital on Saturday when she visited for her “clinic date.” She was two weeks short of her due date.

Chips maker recovering from blows

A 38-year-old chips manufacturer/distributor of Belvedere, Corentyne who was badly beaten by a worker during the Easter holidays and suffered head injuries and a broken right leg has started to recover from his wounds.

Bramdeo Sewnarine was trying to make peace between two workers who were fighting around 10:30 pm when he was dealt the blows.

Bakewell owner laid to rest

Bakewell owner Naeem Nasir, 52, passed away on Tuesday at the Balwant Singh Hospital at around 11.15 pm after a period of illness and was interred yesterday at the Crane cemetery.

That was following the Jannazah (funeral service) held at the Merriman Mall opposite the Queenstown Mosque and close to Nasir’s North Road home.
